Hungarian Author László Krasznahorkai Awarded Nobel Award in Literature
Krasznahorkai was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The Magyar writer was honored "for his gripping and prophetic body of work that, during apocalyptic terror, asserts the might of art."
He has authored five books and won numerous further writing honors, for instance the 2015 Man Booker International Prize, and the 2013 best rendered novel honor in Narrative for his first book Satantango, a postmodern work about the end of the planet.
The writer is the 2nd Hungarian novelist to obtain the award following the deceased Kertesz Imre, who received in 2002.
Originating in the mid-1950s, Krasznahorkai gained recognition in 1985 when he released Satantango, which he adapted for the big screen in the mid-1990s.
The black-and-white movie, by Magyar cinematographer Béla Tarr, is famous for its 7-hour running time.

The award body portrayed Krasznahorkai as "a great grand writer in the Central European heritage that reaches through Kafka to Thomas Bernhard, and is marked by absurdist themes and grotesque extremity."
Krasznahorkai's 2021 work "Herscht 07769" has been described as a great modern Deutsch novel, because of its precision in depicting the country's societal upheaval prior to the COVID-19.
It is a representation of a contemporary village in Thüringen, Deutschland, plagued by societal anarchy, murder and arson.
"Kind giant Florian Herscht is an ward, adopted by a neo-Nazi who has apprenticed him as a street art remover.
"The Boss, a Johann Sebastian Bach fanatic, is enraged that a person is applying wolf symbol symbols across the memorials to the renowned musician in their east German city."
One review remarked it as "accordingly grim from start to finish."
His newest mock-heroic work, Zsömle Odavan, goes back to Magyarország.
The main character is elderly Uncle Józsi Kada, who has a secret entitlement to the throne but has gone to great lengths to disappear from the world.
